Help! I can't get the aol instant messanger video chat to work!?

Ok, I have a laptop with an integrated web cam and I'm trying to video chat with my friend who has a macbook, which also has an integrated cam. I'm using aol instant messenger and my friend is using ichat. Every time we try to connect my virus protection program (norton anti virus) pops up saying that it prevented an attack on my computer and the video chat won't work. How do I get my virus program to allow video chatting?

Please HELP me !!! I need all of you to help me!!! My PC is very infected.vulnerabitys and trojans a

I have stayed for some days without an antivirus. What a stupid I was.One day, I obesrved that I wasn`t the administrator of my PC , when I tryed to re-enalble the virus protection from an anti-virus(I installed). I had a message : that I wasn`t the administrator of my PC. Lolll. I have formated my C: drive , and reinstalled windows. But for what? For nothing. :( I installed again the Panda antivirus (and updated) and I maked a scan and there sayed that aren`t viruses. But I clicked on Vulnerabitys and sayed that I have .... a lot ! I count them and there were ~ 30 . Like Zotob A , B , C , D , etc. , Ctreatxt or somethin` like that , Oscar , etc. And I had 5 hacking tools , 4 were deleted automatically and 1 I delett by myself. I was afraid to not have backdoors but I think I have,I don`t know. I have reformated just C: !! I reinstalled Windows Media Center XP , (like sp 2,the same thing almost) and know also installed BitDefender 9 pro I think , I update it etc. Now he said after a full scan that I have Trojans and stuff in D: !!! Where I didn`t expected. In some files like : "intcodec" (a codec) , "antispam" , other. I cannot delet them. What shall I do? I should formatate the D: ? :( Also there I have files that I need but I will not have now any wishes , I just want my computer clean. In past I observed that I received Invalid atack from IP etc. 215.36 ..... etc. but my PC blocked it. What can I do know to rid from all this stuff? And I formated the C: and reinstalled windows 2 or 3 times these 2 days and observed that in C:\Documents and Settings\User(Me)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files I cannot delet some files and seems that there are still infected stuff I think. Are those comeing from D: ? I have scanned know and look an error:

Norton and windows security centre question?

I have windows vista home premium and norton internet security 2008 trial version on my laptop.I restored my c drive today to resolve some problems.Everything went fine but now the security centre is driving me crazy. The malware and virus protection says norton anti virus is not up to date.So i click on the update option and run live update. Now my norton says it is up to date.So i dont know what to do now.Prior to c drive restore everything was working fine.Help me please.

Norton and windows security centre question?internet security 2006

From my experience with norton internet security on vista is system restore breaks the norton application. I got rid of norton and replace it with trend micro internet security and it has not given me any more problems with system restore on vista home premium .

Norton and windows security centre question?microsoft

I have used Norton, even the 2008 version before, and I hated it. My friend purchased a new HP computer a few months ago, which came with a free trial of Norton. We couldn't get it to work. We even tried calling the company, and the person was remotely accessed to the computer for 3 hours, and he couldn't get it to work. I told my friend to install McAfee, and get rid of Norton. Once McAfee was installed, my friend had no problems at all. I would highly recommend installing McAfee.
Hello ,

Computer virus!!!!! helpppp!!!!?

Saturday I was on my computer and these pop up things keep coming on my screen. One of them says that someone is trying to infect my PC with spyware or infections so I need to download spyware cleaner. and on my background it has this red picutre and it says:download privacy protection now.

But I use the AVG :ANTI VIRUS SCAN and it said that I have no infection I also used mcafee scan and it said no virus found.

Could anyone tell me what to do?

Computer virus!!!!! helpppp!!!!?internet security software

Hi. If you're using Windows XP, you might want to try the System Restore tool. It's really simple to use, and it doesn't effect your computer much (nothing gets deleted unless it was installed recently, I believe).

So, if this problem you describe just started happening recently, you can "go back" to a previous date when your computer was acting fine. Again, this is only for Windows XP... I'm not sure about other operating systems.

Try: Program Files %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; System Recovery ... and the program should be pretty easy to follow.

If you need more documentation for this process, here's a link from Microsoft...

Very Dangerous Virus in my Computer!!!!?

I have Trend Anti-virus, and Webroot Spy Sweeper, that some good protection but this is big. I don't know why but my CPU is now 100% and like 80% physical memory. So my computer is real slow. The worst part is I go to scan, and I know my subscription is not expired, I can't scan, IT IN BOTH SPY SWEEPER AND TREND ANTI_VIRUS AND WINDOWS DEFENDER. IN SPY SWEEPER it disable every protection.

Very Dangerous Virus in my Computer!!!!?internet security

Reboot your machine into safe mode. (Shut it down, turn it back on, and as soon as you turn it on, keep pressing the F8 key 2 to 3 times per second until you get a menu that allows you to start in safe mode.

Once in safe mode, see if your trend and/or spysweeper will allow you to do a scan. (Some antivirus products will not allow you to scan when in safe mode, some will)

You can also *try* an online scan from http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

Depending on the virus it may or may not block that particular scanner. Since it is a lesser known (but VERY GOOD) product, many viruses don't bother blocking that site or their software... The viruses tend to go for easier and/or larger targets like trendmicro, norton, etc.

If that fails, download Spybot search and destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org, install it, update it, and see if it will run. If not, again, reboot into safe mode and do a scan there.

Is the fire wall that comes with windows xp sufficient protection for my computer. I also have McAfee?internet

From my experience, MS firewall is sufficient protection. It may not be the end all that is all but it works well enough. You do need anti-virus software and anti-spyware software on your system. SO McAfee AV %26 MS anti-spyware are good starting points. I would probably recommend getting yourself a copy of Web roots Spysweeper. MS Anti-spyware is good but again not the end all that is all. SpySweeper (along with adware) picks up alot of the slack.

Hopefully this helps.

I would use both - unless they have conflicts, then I would use McAfee only - McAfee does Virus scan software and related programs (including firewall), Microsoft has their hands full with Windows, Office, Visual Studio, etc. I don't trust their firewall software.
You really didn't say if it was McAfee Anti-Virus or McAfee Firewall that you have. If it is McAfee Firewall then disable the XP Firewall as they may conflict.

If XP Firewall is the only firewall you are using I would suggest that you replace it with with the free version of Zone-Alarm. Availible from:

When I do a search, I get taken to sites other than the ones I searched for. I also get annoying pop ups, even though I have a pop up blocker, I think I have a virus or something. I do have virus protection, anti-spyware and identify theft protection etc which is updated every day (the virgin one) so why am I having so many problems and whats the most simple way of solving it? Question about damage to a hard-drive?

I have a compaq presario 5000 with a pentium 4 processor. I had it running with dsl with no protection (stupid I know) and I got lots of damage including spyware, virus's, etc. I took it to the Geek Squad at my local Best Buy. They told me that it needed a new hard drive. I think they said because of all the spyware and infections the harddrive got overworked and damaged. Does that make sense? Is it worth it to replace the harddrive or can I just use my recovery cd and wipe out all the virus and spyware and then just install virus protection/anti-spyware. I know it wont be running to its full capacity if I do that but some of the harddrive will still be working right? I cant really afford to shell out the money for a new system right now. PLEASE ADVISE.

Question about damage to a hard-drive?ktm

your time is free I would definitely try it what do you have to lose

Question about damage to a hard-drive?nortan

NO, that does not make sense. While a hard drive may fail in time, it can be tested to see if it is still good. If they didn't do that, don't replace it.

You need to back up all personal data. Next you do a low-level format of the hard drive, you can generally download a program from the Hard Drive manufacturer's support section. Then you need to reload the operating system, reload any program files and finally reload you personal files including the documents and settings files.

Buy yourself some proper virus protection. You cannot use Microsoft Windows without it.

You can clean up the infection you have now by using SuperAntiSpyware:

http://www.SuperAntiSpyware.com

Once you're happy that the software works and has helped you, then purchase the full version to ensure continuous protection.
This procedure works for all Malware. Use any AntiVirus or AntiSpy program you choose.

Ewido is the best Trojan removing programs available. The AdAware SE is also good since most adware is installed by Trojans. You do not need to use it for this infection but, it wouldn't hurt.

Download and Update Ewido (now called the AVG Antispyware). Do not run:

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Can i use 2 anti spyware prog.....?malware

In a nutshell, you can use as many spyware programs as you want.

The only potential issue is possible conflict with one another if you have them all running all the time.

The best bet is to get a really good spyware program and primarily depend on it to do the job for you.

In my opinion the best spyware software is Spy Sweeper. It costs about $30 for the first year but its has never failed me in any way.

Additionally, there are many other FREE spyware programs out there that do a reasonably good job. I also run Spybot Search %26 Destroy manually from time to time.

Hope this helps.

Can i use 2 anti spyware prog.....?norton 360

they seem to conflict with eachother best program to use is grirsoft avg its free look for it at securitytango.com
I have had no problem running AVG free edition as my virus scanner and several anti-spyware programs.

I use Ad-aware, Spybot search and destroy and Spydoctor (that comes with Google pack). Obviously I don't run scans all at the same time and only spydoctor is set to automatic mode, the other two I only run when I need to.
If they're scan-on-demand applications, then there shouldn't be a problem in using more than one of them. However, they could start fighting with each other if they each have real-time protection features. I would recommend having only one application use real-time protection, and do manual scans with the other one every now and then just to be sure, if you're paranoid.
no we should not use 2 ani spyware
No, they will conflict
instead of going for two protection, you can go for the single ALL IN ONE protection.

You can go for the Internet Security.

Contra Virus. Please, I need help from people who actually know what it is.?

After extensive research, I've found out that the annoying contra-virus is some sort of rouge anti-spyware product. That really makes no sense to me, but whatever. Spybot Search and Destroy doesn't work, and neither does my virus-protection. It was suggested that I run Spyware Doctor, and I did. But its expensive to buy it. Another decent free anti-spy?microsoft office

A firewall and anti-virus program are essential, and more and more lately so is a good anti ad/spyware prog, but one of each at a time is ample, by all means have alternatives to run now and again as a 'belt and braces' set up-- I can heartily recommend Webroots 'Spy Sweeper'

Also, rather than continually adding to your PC, look to the tools that already exist in Windows.... (I'm assuming you use XP here)... ensure that the user account you use daily has appropriate permissions, there's NO need at all to run as 'Administrator' all the time, tighten up the security in Internet Explorer, particularly with regard to unsigned ActiveX components, implement strict 'cookie' control--ideally by blocking ALL, and adding sites that demand them to the 'Trusted Zone'(banking sites, shopping sites etc.)-- most anti adware progs will define some cookies as ad/spyware so by doing this you can be sure that any cookies on your PC are there for a good reason.

Lastly... that grey lump between your ears is infinitely more powerful than that grey lump on your desk, sensible surfing can eliminate a lot of risk, 'think twice, click once' is the phrase I was taught.

Go to Grisoft.com and download AVG free. If you did an true uninstall after turning off the desktop protection then there should not have been a problem. The dll may have been caused by something else. After you get AVG started and updated, go to downloads.com and get ccleaner. It will cleanup any problems with erroneous calls. Microsoft AntiSpyware is now Windows Defender

[working-freeware from Microsoft]

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...

Windows Defender is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, and a new streamlined interface that minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive.

THIS IS THE ONLY ONE....

Great program. All others are by paid subscription only - activating real time protection (heuristics).

Is registry start up protection important?

Why is this important what does it do?

I am in the middle of trying to pick out an internet protection, I have narrowed it down to . Bitdefender Anti-virus, Internet Security, and Total Security 2008 or Kaspersky Antivirus and Internet Security v. 7.0

the difference in the 2 is one has registry start up protection and the other doesn't. And the one that doesn't have web mail protection instead.

I difinitly want the full protection and web scanning, not interested in the free stuff only these 2 products. I currently have Norton 360 and it is an ok program but I want something better.

Is registry start up protection important?network security

Kaspersky Internet Security is the best Internet Security It offers registry protection, parental controls, antiphishing and lots more.

Is registry start up protection important?norton internet security

Kaspersky if your going to use it turn your speakers down, Scares the life outta ya. But go download the Free AVG Ive used the majority of Av's on-line and the free one seems to be the best one, alot a big buisnesses use the free AVG one because it saves money and it is updated every time u log on and dosent take long with other AVs.

Norton is horrable and the other two paid ones dont compare to AVG. But if you want the lot, Firewall, AV, Spyware etc go looking for Panda Platinum.
mail not important unless you use outlook express as for registry protection thats not necessary. In my opinion all paid software a ripoff while you can get the freebies which are way better... If the price is the same for registry protection get it if it cost more get the other one

Online Protection.?

ok i have free avg anti virus, windows defender, and ccleaner.

is there any other protection i should get? computer runs slow 24.0mbps gose up and down.

Online Protection.?network

For starters, I would like to suggest you try a free online security scan, you can find it here: http://www.purenetworks.com/securityscan...

The security tool has a built-in Network Lock, which prevents any device outside your home or office network from accessing your wireless network. Not only that, but when using a Hotspot, Network Magic's PC Shield feature automatically locks down your shared folders to protect your files from unauthorized access. And to give you one last layer of security, you can create a unique network name or SSID using the software.

Another thing to try, since you mention your internet runs very slow. Here's a link where you can find a speed speed meter to test your connection speed: http://www.networkmagic.com/product/spee...

Since you already know your internet is very slow, this gives you a quick way to speed test your Internet connection, and diagnose what your problem may be if you are experiencing below average speed.

For full disclosure -- I do work for Pure Networks, the creator of Network Magic, so if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask! I'm always happy to help.

How good is SBC online protection?

I need to know how good the online protection offered by SBC is. I use the anti-spyware and anti-virus scans every week. Is this sufficient?

How good is SBC online protection?nortan antivirus

Good afternoon.

Installation, proper configuration, and updating any anti-virus and anti-spyware program are the important steps.

Asking how good is a product may not be the best question - they are all good to some extent and some excel in specific tests. On top of that, we have our favourites based on ease of use, reliability and so on.

The important thing is that you are using protection; but I strongly suggest that you configure the products for real time scanning, or actively scan daily, or even more often if you surf "high risk" sites, or are getting a lot of spam.

Regards.

My computer which is connected to the internet keeps on popping out dialogue boxes or windows saying that I have been infected with NetWorm.-i.Virus@fp or W32.mozart virus or that I need to download anti-spyware. Specifically a security warning says the name of the virus, the damage level, the description, the advice and the protection which is to download certified antivirus software by clicking the baloon. Upon clicking the baloon, selected antivirus programs are displayed which says free download but these are actually for sale because they will only scan your computer and show the files infected and advise you to buy their anti-virus softwares. I suspect that this in itself is a virus. What shall I do to stop this. All that and you left out clues to identifying the malware. My best guess is that it is either a Smitfraud/zlob trojan or Vundo.

There is one free commercial program that has had success removing both. Super Antispyware.

Once you use it look at the log and see if it has identified either of the two I mentioned above.

Wow that was a long answer lol.

Free avg for anti-virus and you may also want to try adaware remover, run full scans with both and remove all it finds.

Try to do this in safe mode, as this only loads the basics of windows etc. ( To run in safe mode, on startup, hit the f8 key continuously )

There are a number of sites online that will do a real time scan of your computer for you. Symantec is one. Otherwise, completely remove the AV software you have, download a trial and go from there. We sell, as do others mcafee and Kaspersky oem for super cheap. You can actually download the trial, buy the program and put the license into your trial.

IMHO, Norton is the best and the authority on protection. When others detect something, they will often direct you to Norton/Symantec (SARC) to find out about the virus. They all like to claim they detect the most. But detection is not what its all about. They need to detect before the infection, and instead of just removing the virus do they help repair the damage the virus did?

hello. My ID is Dell Tech. I am grateful to answer your question.

Limewire is a cool software. Yes, it makes your computer vulnerable to viruses... It allows you to download songs and video for free... unfortunately, once you have Likmewire installed on your computer, your Anti virus protection will not stop the viruses because you gave limewire permission to be installed on your computer and your Anti Virus will listenn towhat you say or do.

What do you think of the Verizon Yahoo! Online Protection?

I have DSL service through Verizon Yahoo!. In the package, they provided something free called Verizon Yahoo! Online Protection all-in-one Security Software Suite. I installed everything but the Anti-Virus component of that suite since I had a free trial version of Norton Internet Security 2006. Now that that has expired, I was going to install the Anti-Virus software from the Verizon Yahoo! software. I just wanted to know before doing it, though, whether it is good or not. If not, what would you recommend?

If you were to switch to Verizon's MSN package you will get free McAfee anti-virus, free McAfee Personal Firewall and free Webroot Spy-Sweeper. A much better package and then you can just delete the MSN browser bloatware.

Do these various anti-virus and anti-spyware software companies deliberately infect PC's with virus and other nasty things and then offer to sell you the "cure"? Much like the old Mafia "protection" scams? I feel suspicious as

How can a new computer have a trojan virus and it is not 3months old?

I just purchased a new windows vista computer in Feb. and already had to buy a anti-virus disk to remove the trojan virus. This is insane I thought the computer had built in protection for 60 days at least.

How can a new computer have a trojan virus and it is not 3months old?pc security

Almost all malware infections require some action by the user to get installed on a computer. The rest can be avoided by keeping your computer OS and programs updated and avoiding driveby downloads by using the Firefox Browser with NoScript extension.

There is no reason to pay for antimalware products. There are many of the best available for free. I have included a link to a list of free products used by members of Bleeping Computer as well as other free programs and tools.

Sorry to tell you this if you didn't know but most virus's equal porn.
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but as a previous poster said *points up* no single program or security suite product is a one size exterminates all. you need a variety of products to keep you safe anti-virus program's in general do not look for or detect torjans and vice versa you need a mixture of program's to keep you safe. an anti-virus program is a good start you now need a spyware detection and removal program, a malware detection and removal program, and a firewall program to regulate the information traffic in and out of your computer.

Anyone that says you should get spy-bot s%26d and drop spysweeper is an idiot(24%??, he needs to do more research) and does not know what they are talking about.

1) You need to upgrade to Spysweeper with Antivirus

2) Drop kaspersky, auslogics, o %26o, ad aware, nod32

3) Turn off windows firewall

4) Keep zone alarm firewall

5) Buy Norton Systemworks, it has all the protection and optimize features you need.

6)Stay away from anything free when it comes to spyware/antivirus, there is a reason why they are free, they are NOT good.

A anti spyware "antivirgear "finds itself on my taskbar, nohing i can do to remove it, wha

Some of the fastest-growing and dangerous threats on the Internet are spyware, adware, dialers and browser hijackers. Simple web-page browsing can cause you a lot of PC infections. That is why the very first thing a clever user should do is to protect his computer not only with anti-virus programs but with anti-spyware applications as well. AntiVirGear has proved to be one of the most effective protection solutions. It is the most advanced Spyware detection and removal application on the Internet available.

If your PC is infected with spyware all your keystrokes, visited websites and even conversations can be recorded or monitored by someone who had secretly installed spy software on your PC. This person or company can steal your banking data, make Internet access slower, change browser homepage, etc.

Usually spyware is bundled with software downloads, attached to e-mails, or transmitted through networks. That鈥檚 why many antivirus programs define it as legitimate software. Once installed, it can be hard to remove, and therefore, your computer will remain infected and your privacy will be at risk for a long time. We have developed a powerful tool 鈥?AntiVirGear 鈥?to help users detect and remove spyware and malware from their PCs.

Every PC owner has valuable and confidential personal information stored on his/her computer. This can include credit card and banking details, private e-mails and documents, shopping and browsing habits, etc. All this information should be protected from software intruders snooping. Are you sure your PC is protected? Do you want to know whether it is infected or clean? Download FREE AntiVirGear scanner and check your PC now.

Help with virus/spyware?

Well when I got this computer, it came with a 90 day trial of Norton Internet Security+Anti-Virus, and after it expired I got Norton 360 All-In-One. I had to uninstall the old Norton to install the new one, so I did. Then when i turned on my computer at the task tray (or whatever it's called, the icons at the bottom right.) There was a flashing red circle w/ a X in the middle and it said "System Alert". My background was overlapped by a big red toxic sign and under that "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER!". A lot of pop-ups kept coming up saying "System Alert" "Worm was detected on your computer, click yes to delete this worm now.", "Windows Security Alert" "Windows has detected an Internet attack attempt... Somebody's trying to infect your PC with spyware or harmful viruses. Run full system scan now to protect your PC from Internet attacks, hijacking attempts and spyware! Click here to download spyware remover for total protection.", and when I open up Internet Explorer, the home page is an ad telling me to buy a spyware remover. Even when I change the homepage, it changes back whenever I open Internet Explorer. I installed Norton 360 All-In-One and ran virus scans and things, but they didn't detect anything. Should I get a different anti-virus program? Thanks for the help =]

They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

1. For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V)

I like the FREE, AOL ActiveVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. ActiveVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, ActiveVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

Full test results are here:

ActiveVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Yahoo Anti-Spy Toolbar?

I am in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel and I saw "Yahoo Anti-Spy" listed there taking up 39.0 MB of space. Is this thing somehow tied in with Norton? Because I just got rid of Norton on my computer and got CA Virus protection and like it much better. My question is can I just delete it from "Add/Remove Programs". The weird thing is that it says that it is only used occasionally and that the last time it was used was on 1/3/07 which is today? Don't understand that. I have Adware installed and that's the one I use all the time. If I uninstall this Yahoo Anti-Spy - will it delete my regular Yahoo Toolbar also? If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

1. AVG Free

a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)

b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses

Cons: low virus detection

2. Avast!

a. Real-time protection

b. It has an option to delete a virus once found

c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.

Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

3. Avira AntiVir

a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG

b. It's cute umbrella icon

c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses

Cons: A very sluggish update

I advise against Norton anti-virus, it's bloated software that slows your computer down. The best anti-virus available is Kaspersky or NOD32 (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).

I have a computer virus. Can someone help me out?

I think I have a computer virus. I have SBC Yahoo DSL internet, and I have all the antivirus and online protection downloads. I use both often. My internet is slow, freezes up and I get pop ups ALOT. The anti virus software pops up telling me my computer is infected, but doesn't give me the option of deleting them. I don't want to have to completely restore the computer. Is there a software or something I can download that will get rid of the viruses and make my internet fast with no popups again?

Good laptop and printer needed for new college student?

i am gonna start college in the fall and i need to get a new laptop. and a printer. are there any good recomendations.

i was thinking of a sony vaio and i also saw a lenmark printer/scanner/copier/ect.

any other good recomendations and where can i get them at a good price. also any good recomendations for an anti-virus/spyware protection.

Good laptop and printer needed for new college student?vincent

It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I like all Sony Vaio's. I dont like Lexmark printers... but they are cheap!

Give me a price range and I can give you some best choices. Also, do you want ultra-portable and light weight, or more of a desktop replacement, which is heavy, but very powerful?

Good laptop and printer needed for new college student?adware remover

you should check out this site where you can get a sony vaio laptop for free
The first thing is what you need? if you need a computer to surf the web download some music, MS office media player and daily work go for a HP, Sony Vaio is excellent but too expensive, so you can go for a HP that is a decent notebook, has a nice price and the most important will do the job.

Other thing is don麓t buy the latest technology because it changes faster than you can imagine so go for something that fill your needs (for example : Intel is much better than AMD but for daily works is almost the same between this to type of processors and you will save a few hundreds bucks that you can spend in memory). About the multifunction (printer, copy and fax) you can get a great deal at bestbuy or circuit city.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...
if you want a vaio, thats fine. But there are many other laptop brands out there that are much cheaper. Some great brands for starting college are asus, and even hp has some good ones. But as for finding them cheaply, newegg.com. Its the greatest

Lenmark is a good printer. Another good one is hp. And for antivirus, norton is the best if you are willing to spend a reasonable amount of money.

Enabling cookies?

While watching Google video,I attempted to rate a video and when I clicked on the 5th star to rate...it flashed up in red letters....must enable cookies to use this feature. I have always been able to rate vids on Google and have not changed anything. How do I enable cookies and why did this change without my knowledge? No one else uses my computer and I have anti-virus,firewall protection, spybot etc. Thank you.

Enabling cookies?virus protection software

To enable cookies, on your browser select tools/ Internet options/Privacy tab/ there is a slide bar that you can use for different settings I like the advanced option click on advanced place a check in override automatic cookie handling. place dot in accept first party cookies and block third party cookies and a check in always allow session cookies. Hope this helps you.

Enabling cookies?adware

Maybe they are just being douchebags today.
sorry thought you had a real cookie prob
This maybe because of spyware. To enable cookies go to tools%26gt; Internet Options%26gt;Privacey%26gt; Click on Default

If this doesn't work slide the bar down to low or turn one of your spyware sofware or anitvirus software
Right click on Internet Explorer on your desktop. On the Privacy tab, select medium-high security. That will allow cookies, but not sell the farm. This usually only changes with new browser installs. Or if you allowed an active-x control to run. Not a good sign.

Help! Probs with Windows Media Player?

Hi, if anyone has any ideas what else I can try...

I can't play any short movies/clips on my computer using Windows Media Player, as I could before. I keep getting an "Internal Application Error" message. I went to Control Panel%26gt;Add/Remove Programs%26gt;Add/Remove Windows Components and removed Windows Media Player, have restarted my computer and then tried to reinstall it, and keep getting the same error message.

I think this started after I had my whole computer formatted and had to start all over again, after some conflict between a couple of Anti SpyWare/Virus Protection applications.

I've tried using Quicktime but that doesnt like .wmv files. Any thoughts appreciated!

**I'm not sure if having iTunes is creating any kind of conflict??

Got a virus, it wont delete, please help!?

I have got a virus on my computer. (Came with a Email)

So i installed ZoneAlarm (Zonelabs.com) and AVG Anti-Virus Free (free.grisoft.com) and i CANT GET RID OF THE VIRUS!

It pops up some notifications in the notification area with some red button and a exclamation mark on it.

Apart from that there are two dialogs, one which is called Windows Security Alert (And the text doesnt seem like ANYTHING microsoft would write), it says "Click here to download spyware remover" and another that says i got a worm blah blah on my system 2000/XP Home/XP Professional/Vista Business.

I am running XP Pro and i have a Vista Ultimate partition (And a Ubuntu Linux)

It also adds three icons to the desktop "Error Cleaner" "Provacy Protector" "Spyware%26Malware Protection"

I just cant get rid of it, AVG has searched 2 (On the third lap right now) on Full, i have removed several Start up items that wherent there before and so on...

What else CAN i do? My system is so slow right now that it is barely useable..

Got a virus, it wont delete, please help!?virus removal

It is spyware masquerading as a security alert. You probably don't have a virus as claimed, just the spyware of the company trying to sell this software to you, it's just claiming you do to scare you into buying their useless software. You, however, are infected by it, so you need to get rid of it.

Grrr my norton as just expired?

i bought a new computer 3 months ago and been using norton anti-virus/firewall protection that was already on my computer from the shop.

ive been really happy with it, but the suscription as just run out, i can still use it, but not protected against new threats.

i don't fancy paying 拢30 to renew it though, is there any tips?

I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust's 12 month free trial is excellent (I'm using it and am extremely impressed).

If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.

If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.

Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection and check for any updates when you first download them.

i would forget about norton - as others have said - go with AVG (free version) and SPYBOT (also free) you get all updates free - its quick and very efficient

hope this helps
I used to run Norton and AVG provided by Grisoft (as previously mentioned by phy333 - interesting name - wonder what it means!) side by side on the same system.

How do i get rid of all the stupid pop-ads from vista?

i just got my new laptop and it keeps popping up stupid RANDOM ads from internet explorer and it builds up. i use the internet explore block feature as well as norton anti virus system protection. nothing works. help!

what is the most effective?

How do i get rid of all the stupid pop-ads from vista?virus scanner

those pop-ups are called adware, and it's not internet explorer's fault. anti virus can't stop adware because it's not a virus. you need an anti spyware to remove that thing. i recommend spyware doctor: http://www.2-spyware.com/review-spyware-...

but you can find many anti spyware products online

How do i get rid of all the stupid pop-ads from vista?anti virus software

Vista needs about 50 to 60 Windows Updates before operating properly. Make sure you have Automatic Updates set. I have a new Vista Home Premium and it is set right out of the box to protect with the firewall activated and Windows Defender antispyware (free from Microsoft, good program). Generally, continual pop ups in Internet Explorer is a sign of adware. Windows Defender is the only free program with real time protection (activated in paid subscri[ption security software). It has active shields protecting all parts of the system areas. It would be a rare event that adware installed past their active shields. It is more likely you downloaded some software that was bundled with adware and perhaps even other malware like spyware.

Do I have enough protection on my computer?

I currently run:

1)Norton Anti-virus

2)Norton Firewall

3)Spybot- Search and Destroy

I am quite careful with sites I visit and almost never open any spam emails.

l don't have the quickest computer in the world so I don't want too many programs scanning it at once.

Two questions I'd like answers,

a) Is this enough protection?

b) If I was to add one more program what free program would you add to this list of protection?

Many thanks

Hey, is windows Defender reliable enough to be the only Anti-virus/spyware protection on my PC? Does it even protect your PC from both?

Or should i run something like AVG with it?

Windows Defender reliable??Is it good enough?-Please help.!?viruses

Windows Defender is a good program, it also has real time protction, though i disable that feature and use Spyware Terminator, it's more aggresive, if you want to really be on top of things in regards to your pc, then do these.

Follow these steps and it will remove almost all viruses and malware/spyware from your computer. It will also make your computer run faster.

.

鈥 know this procedure looks long, but much of this is explanatory text to help less experienced people.

鈥lease do not cheat by skipping any steps. You are only hurting yourself if you do. And you will waste more time. The goal is to get your PC fixed. Completing the steps in this generic guide may or may not resolve all of your malware problems, but in all cases it gets your PC into a known state to help make it easier for me to fix your problems. After completing all steps, if you still need help, please send a new question. You may have a problem trying to run steps in safe mode on user accounts that have limited priviledges. This will only be on Windows 2K, XP, %26 2003 systems. Limited user accounts will not show when you boot into safe mode. You have two options, run the steps in normal boot mode which may not work to remove malware, or you can temporarily change the user account to an admin account and then complete the steps.

Do I really need any protection software on my computer?

Really I dont care if I get any viruses infact I reninstall Windows Vista every week! Dont ask why but I just do its almost like a habit! Is it bad for the PC?

Also the reason I dont want any protection utilities is because of my computer performance! I just want to to be and STAY fast! If you can reccommend any ANTI-VIRUS firewall ect. (whatever I need and preferabily one that is free) that will not slow down my computer, I will GREATLY appericiate it! thanks!

if you don't install more program in your computer, it is stay fast . you need an anti virus for protect your computer. I propose Kaspersky. it is the best anti virus , It think.
If you want your PC to stay fast, then you need security software.

Viruses, and spy ware slow down a PC to about 1 tenth of it's performance capabilities.

If you don't mind waiting 10 minutes for your PC to boot up, then don't worry about getting any security software.
If you want your PC to stay fast, then you need security software.

Viruses, and spy ware slow down a PC to about 1 tenth of it's performance capabilities. you can get a 90 day free trial of windows live one care. you do not need a credit card or any thing like that
No, you don't - and I mean that sincerly. As long as you truly do not care if your identity gets stolen (could happen?) or if your computer shuts down and stops working...

Who would be trying to hack into computer?

I think someone is trying to hack into my computer. At least 10 times, I have come home from work and my picture files have been pulled up and/or the AT%26T menu page is up with search and find option open with different coding in the space.

I don't know much about computers. I thought I had good anti virus/spyware protection .

Now I am getting paranoid that it is my ex-boyfriend. Are hackers typically someone you know?

Who would be trying to hack into computer?windows

I'm not sure exactly what you are describing, please remember we are not familiar with AT%26T or anything about your computer.

One of my acquaintances put a keystroke logger on their girlfriends' computer to find out if she was in-fact cheating but these are highly illegal in those sorts of situations. It couldn't hurt to run anti-virus scanning to see if you find anything, often one product won't detect everything so use multiple defenses.

There are lots of "family" keyloggers out there that people can install to watch each other pretty easily. I'm not sure that's what you have going on from your description but I hope you find out whats going on.

Udate your antivirus and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus, I recommend you use firefox browser. It is safer than IE. It can prevent viruses such as worm, trojan and etc. The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com
Have you scanned for spyware? Perhaps your browser has been hijacked by a malicious program. If so dowload a program called Hijackthis. What anti-virus program are you trying to install?

Who knows how to uninstall the Yahoo! Online Protection Software??

i want to install a new anti virus but everytime i go the the Add/REmove programs place, then i go to Yahoo! Applications and i click "Change/Ramove" but nothing happens...isnt a program supposed to open?? if it is supposed then it dosnt and everytime i turn off my computer and all the programs are shuting down, a window pops up saying "SBC Yahoo! Applications is not responding" So then i tried deleting all the YOP (yahoo protection) registries because everytime i disabled the antivirus program that comes with yahoo protection, my internet dosnt work. but even though i delete everything that has to do with yahoo protection, my internet still dosnt work. so now i have to stick with this even though i dont want it. and now my internet works because i have the antivirus thing on...any suggestions to uninstall this program?

Who knows how to uninstall the Yahoo! Online Protection Software??abtuvurys 2005

One added bit of information about the free Yahoo online protection. The antivirus and antispyware is provided by Computer Associates. They've been used by Fortune 500 companies for many years. A very reputable and reliable company. You can read more about the antivirus here:

http://store.digitalriver.com/servlet/Co...

And the antispyware here:

http://store.digitalriver.com/servlet/Co...

Personally, I don't think any antivirus or antispyware is 100% effective simply because new viruses and spyware are being developed by the minute. But Computer Associates has not failed me so they might prove me wrong. (I paid for CA protection before I got the free online suite when I changed to AT%26T Yahoo.)

Who knows how to uninstall the Yahoo! Online Protection Software??antivirus programs

I do!

first, close any open programs related to yahoo protection.

then go to control panel/add remove programs then remove yahoo

yes, yahoo protection is good you should just be happy and use it.
I have Norton Antivirus. Yahoo, which scans incoming e-mail before opening, does not interfere with it. Why would you want to remove it?

I tried to open what looked like a legitimate link. Thank God, Yahoo stopped me and advised me that it had a worm.

I am grateful to Yahoo.

Computer Virus Problem?

I think I'm having my first computer virus because all these advertisements for spyware software keep coming up. They even chnaged my background to a link that says click here for spyware protection and I can't figure out how to get rid of all this.

Now multiple windows with different styles of popups say it is from Microsoft security center. One i think downloaded VirusIsolator which even deleted my norton anti-virus software from the desktop. I can't even do system restore. Anyone have any ideas?

Computer Virus Problem?adware

These days you need a whole lot more than just a virus protection. Only about 15% of all malware is viruses. The rest is worms, trojans, phishing schemes, spyware, etc.

Here's some ideas to make Internet Security Suite (securitycenter) for free. Free is always the best.

--------------------------------------...

1. For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V...You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict...(did I mention that you MUST uninstall any old anti-virus products?)

For your anti-virus needs, I would suggest Avira AntiVir庐 PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than many of "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. And did I mention that it's free!

Rogers Yahoo! Online Protection v.2.0?

Hi, I was wondering how I could reinstall v.2.0 of the Rogers Yahoo! Online Protection because I accidentally upgraded to v.2.5 with Norton Online Security. Please help me get back to v.2.0 with Norton Anti-Virus and Personal Firewall.

Rogers Yahoo! Online Protection v.2.0?agv

If Rogers Yahoo operates the same as AT%26T Yahoo, you might not be able to go back. The ISP (Rogers, AT%26T, Verizon, etc) will periodically renew a contract with the security provider. Whatever security package is offered is what the user gets stuck with. You might be able to uninstall what you have and then use this link to get the NAV with firewall:

http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cable/in...

If this isn't the right package, yo might have to contact Rogers to see if it's still available. There's also a "contact us" link on the Rogers website.
