Computer Virus.....HELP!!?

I have this computer (OS win 98)at work which does not literally do anything. It gets stuck on every application. It did not have any antivirus protection..so i installed the anti virus, update it.. and tried to run.. but i think the virus got my Norton too.. i tried to format the Drives.. the C: drive could not be formatted because the OS in installed in there, I neither can format nor scan the C:. what can i do? i tried replacing the win 98 with the XP.. but the computer got stuck on the process..what can i do??

I guess you should upgrade the hardware itself. Maybe the reason why you can't install WinXP is because you lack the minimum hardware requirements to run it in your PC.

Check your specs, if its lower than the recommended requirements (not the minimum), try upgrading for your XP run, at least, at a tolerable level.

First get a BOOTABLE windows XP CD and insert it into ur Cd-rom.

Now change the first boot option to " Boot from CD" from settings by pressing del at system startup

Follow the instructions.

It will ask u to select the drive on which the windows will be installed. Make sure u first format ur all the drives before installing the new windows.

u can select the option " Format using NTFS (quick)".

And just let the installation process to complete.
try a system restoration from an earlier time when you didnt have the virus.

try deleting the cookies and history from your internet.

then try installing norton again and running it.
