Virus on my computer?

My internet was down and i called bellsouth for help and a screen came up and they said i have a virus. He suggested i call dell and tell them to format my computer which would uninstall everything i have to be sure to get rid of the virus. I got anti spyware protection but it cant delete it. Should i get a whole new computer or call dell?

Use AntiVirus software - as you've already found, you can't use Microsoft Windows without it! AVG Free is good for the price.

Dell can help you if you want to format %26 re-install.

If you are rich and want to get a whole new computer, then get one running Mac OS X or Ubuntu so you don't get Microsoft viruses any more.

If you have xp you can do a recovery, or backup. You should not get a new computer due to a virus though. Just get a friend that knows computers to fix it. It will save you lots of money. I would also recommend you call bellsouth again, perhaps the tech you talked to on the phone was new or had to go use the restroom and just lied and said you had a virus and could not wait on the phone long...

if you have your operating system that came with the computer you can restart everything. and start from scratch...sorry for your loss.
You should use an antivirus program and antispyware software, because your computer is now infected with viruses and/or spyware.
