Bought this computer just before christmas 2007 to replace
my old ibm thinkcentre which died on me.My problem is that it
freezes sometimes and i can`t do anything but shut down and re-start again.I have upgraded the memory from 512mb to
1024 mb but it still locks up on me .Its an intermittent fault and only happens occasionally. Its running windows vista home basic with a 3.0 ghz pentium d processor.I have all the protection ie anti virus, anti spyware, firewall, windows defender, and other things.
Getting really fed up with it and might put my old hard drive in
with xp on it if i can`t resolve the problem.
Any thoughts peeps.

Freezing is often a heart problem. Can your fans and their air outlets.
Vista has some neat programs for nailing done faults. Go control pane, System Maintenance and take a look at the logs and run a few tests. Also check out the device manager and make sure none of your devices are not running properly. (And while your are in this nodule turn of the indexing, it is the biggest resource hog ever.)
It could be a memory problem and Vista has a program to check that, search Help for memory problems.

You may be having a conflict with all the "protection" software you have running. You may want to thin out some software.
