My computer is currently in the shop so I borrowed my mom's computer. I've had the computer for a few months. The virus protection (McAfee) just expired recently. Since then, I have been getting lots of popups, being redirected to different websites, and the computer has been running very slow. I downloaded a free trial of Kaspersky anti virus software, and erased all of the McAfee components. After the Kaspersky installation, I restarted the computer. The computer restarted, but all I see is my background picture. No icons, no start menu. I can hit ALT+CTRL+DEL and open the task panel and choose new task from there to open programs, but where are my icons. I can't even run the newly installed Kaspersky software. I think I may have a virus or something, but I can't fix it if I can't use the software. I tried system restore, but it just tells me that it can't be restored and that no changes have been made. Do I need to refromat my hrd drive?
