It doesn't have to be free, just reasonably priced and most importantly - Not a resource hog.
I swear this Norton Internet Security (06) is a piggy pile of code. It slows my whole system down to a crawl.
Has anyone else had this experience? I do want protection but this is ridiculous.
I already have Spyware Doctor. What anti-virus, other security options are there.
My system: Windows XP
Norton Interent Security (06) - Looking for alternatives?hp
Norton 2003-2006 were huge resource hogs that would slow all but top-of-the-line machines down.
Norton 2007 has been completely re-done and now uses a very reasonable amount of computer resources.

Anyway, is free reasonable enough...
Here's some ideas to "roll ya own" Internet Security Suite for free. Free is always the best.

1. For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V)
I like the FREE, AOL ActiveVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. ActiveVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, ActiveVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test results are here:
